Weaning and after
Forum · 1 thread
Winding feeds down, and how it feels when they stop.
Weaning threads are quieter and more tender than the rest of the board. Whether it ended at six weeks or two years, by choice or by circumstance, parents arrive here to ask how to do it gently, and to admit how much bigger the feelings are than they expected. Both questions belong here.
The two halves of stopping
The practical half has real answers: drop one feed at a time, give each change a few days to settle, and watch for firm, tender patches while your body catches up with the new arrangement. The step-by-step guide to stopping breastfeeding covers gradual and faster approaches and how to stay comfortable through either.
The emotional half gets less warning. The hormonal shift as feeds end is physical and real, and a stretch of unexpected sadness, even when weaning was wanted, is one of the most common confessions on this board. The piece on the emotional side of breastfeeding is the one moderators link most often in these threads, usually with the words "you are not the only one".
One boundary worth stating plainly: low mood that deepens or will not lift after weaning deserves a conversation with your own doctor, not just a forum thread. The community is good company, but it is not care.
